This position is a Full-Time, Temporary position that may require overtime, although overtime is not guaranteed.  Length of these projects vary depending on the development cycle.


I.        Basic Function:

 

The Tester, QA Network Lab is a position within the Labs group, reporting directly to the Project Lead, and is a support function to the Quality Assurance department. The position is responsible for maintaining and operating the Network Lab, testing and evaluating the multiplayer component of each game at select milestones in its development. The tester will also be responsible for the maintenance of equipment used in the Network Lab. The QA Tester may also be called upon to perform in an acting QA Project Lead role, which involves organizing and leading the testing effort on an assigned software title.  

 

MNQA Labs

The MNQA Labs are divided into 3 areas – Network, Audio/Visual, and Compatibility. All testers within the labs are responsible for all 3 areas as our schedule dictates. The following is a breakdown of each area:

 

Netlab:

·         Check Network functionality of Multiplayer game titles including bandwidth used, packet captures via Wireshark software, disconnection testing and proper error handling, router compatibility, and other special requests from our developers.

·         Work with the Functional and TRG Teams on a variety of projects on multiple platforms

A/V Lab

·         Test that all video display modes function properly.

·         Test that all in-game shell options are functioning as intended.

·         Utilize 7.1 Surround Sound equipment to check game titles for audio fidelity

·         Utilize Dolby testing equipment to check game titles for proper loudness levels

 

Compatibility Lab

·         Build custom gaming PCs to specifications provided by our developers.

·         Check compatibility on a wide range of PC hardware to ensure our end users will not encounter problems with our PC games in the retail environment

·         Provide detailed feedback about game performance such as FPS (frames per second) on a wide variety of different hardware configurations.

 

 

II.        Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Support QAF Audio/Visual, Network and PC Compatibility Testing

  • Assists the QA Labs Lead with the creation, maintenance, and auditing of Test Cases within DevTest
  • Assists the QA Labs Lead with the completion of milestone assessment reports at Alpha, Beta and Code Release in accordance with QA policies. 
  • Contributes towards the development of effective test plans and performing standard testing on console, PC & mobile games to verify proper function, data content, performance, usability/playability, and hardware/software compatibility.
  • Works jointly with QA Testers to determine audio, visual and network performance in all areas of the game.
  • Identifies and documents defects in a clear and concise manner using the assigned bug tracking databases.
  • Assists in special projects, such as demonstrations, training, surveys, focus groups, etc.
  • May be called upon to help manage the test team in the QA Labs Lead's absence
  1. Database Administration
  • Assists the QA Labs Lead with a review of all issues entered by the QA Labs test team to ensure defect reports include required information and conform to Activision QA standards.
  • Assist the QA Labs Lead with initial research and evaluation of all disputed (‘Not a Bug,’ ‘Will Not Fix,’ & ‘Duplicate’) issues
  1. Managing and Mentoring
  • Supervises and aids the QA Labs test team on a daily basis to ensure rapid and accurate completion of assigned tasks.
  • May be asked to contribute to tester performance evaluations.  Works closely with them to alleviate any issues that arise.

III.        Requirements:

 

Technical

  • Must possess excellent spoken and written communication skills and be able to work with varied staff members and personalities.
  • Proficient with Devtrack & Jira or similar bug tracking database.
  • Able to identify defects in software titles and report defects in a clear and concise manner.
  • Capacity to create and implement innovative testing procedures and materials.
  • Strong working knowledge of most popular console platforms and related peripherals, PC Software/hardware, and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Knowledge of Dolby and DTS standards.
  • Knowledge of computer network hardware, common router configurations & peripheral equipment.
  • Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting computer networking and connectivity issues.
  • Experience with installation and repair of computer system hardware, operating systems, respective software and peripherals.

Non-Technical

  • Has been in a leadership role (Senior QA Tester and/or Acting Associate QA Project Lead).
  • 1 year of experience working in the Activision QA Department or in a comparable Quality Assurance department.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to mentor new employees.
  • Ability to handle high pressure situations and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Must be punctual, proactive, and have a strong work ethic.
  • Able to work in a team environment.
  • Actively communicates a positive, outgoing approach to Quality Assurance.  Able to give and accept positive feedback as well as constructive criticism.
  • Must be an avid gamer, with interests in many different genres of games and a passion for developing high quality games.
  • A strong desire to learn and understand the technologies involved in game creation.

                                                                

 

IV.     Principal Working Relationships:

 

Project Lead/Sr. Lead, QA Network Lab: Report testing results; confer with strategy and feedback; discuss team and lab needs

QA Testers/ Testers: Interact and coordinate work;

QA Project Leads: Interact and coordinate work; report test results;

QA Sr. Leads: Provide high level feedback on testing effort

Manager, QA Labs: Provide high level feedback on testing effort

QA-MIS Lead/Technicians: Assistance and support on network related requests and projects

Support Groups (Multiplayer Lab, Compatibility, OEM, AV Lab, Certification): department related issues

Customer Support: Report known network issues, provide alternative solutions or work-around for network titles released
