Are you a video game enthusiast who enjoys first-person-shooters, and is passionate about creating epic explosions and eye tantalizing experiences?  

Our VFX team is a small but is an extremely powerful group of people that are responsible for every moon beam to muzzle flash. Within the film industry, you are given a shot that might take you 3 to 6 months to develop, while the finished product only highlights 10 seconds of your hard work and creativity. 

At Sledgehammer Games, you will be responsible for the entire VFX cycle of development. 

However, this isn’t just about what you’ll be doing, it’s the how that sets our team apart. Our VFX Lead cares about you and your career, so they will spend quite a bit of time helping you develop the toolset you need to take your career to new heights. Within our VFX team, you will go on research trips, do practical footage shoots, have team night outs, personal 1:1s, and of course have a personal development plan.

Your orders and directives:
  • Create stunning visuals effects using proprietary real time particle systems
  • Ensure that VFX assets meet runtime budget requirements
  • Creatively solve technical issues that arise

The medals and honors you must have earned:
  • Experience of visual effects development on next-gen console hardware (XB1/PS4/PC)
  • A critical eye and appreciation of cinematics when placing effects
  • In-depth understanding of the limitations and expectations of next-gen hardware
  • Excellent working knowledge of Maya/Max and Photoshop
  • Experience with other gaming engine toolsets such as Unreal or Unity
  • Excellent sense of timing, shapes, color, composition and framing skills
  • Skillful ability to create textures for games
  • 1+ year of practical VFX gaming experience

What you should know to get double XP!
  • Experience and comfort with one or more scripting/programming languages
  • Experience with creating high-end rendering of particle effects and fluid dynamics
  • Proficiency with Houdini, Blender, Maya Fluids or similar
