Sledgehammer Games, developers of several Call of Duty titles, is currently seeking an Expert Character Outsource Artist to join our growing team!

Works as a key member of the character art team to help drive outsourcing pipelines and processes for characters and props for the game.  Create briefs for outsourcing requirements, direct feedback from day to day, and polish and integrate characters and prop assets for in game as needed. Individuals understands anatomy and proportions as it translates to 3D modeling, skeletal rigging, and mesh deformation. Takes initiative to learn and adapt to new team practices based on evolving technologies. Can work and thrive in a solo environment and alongside Production, Art Director and Lead Character Artist while under time constraints.
 
Your Mission:    
  • Collaborate with Production, Lead Character Artist and Art Director to help maintain and develop the look and feel of assets externally with outsourcing vendors.
  • Communicate and collaborate with external vendors awesome characters and props that are efficient, built to scale and satisfy budgetary requirements.
  • Direct feedback on a day to day of a number of assets and prioritize tasks.
  • Maintain and share extensive knowledge pertaining to military gear, uniforms and equipment.  
  • Work with character lead and technical art director to understand budgetary requirements and ensure that characters and props created fulfills these requirements through external vendors.
  • Ability to modify and polish work as needed to hit targets that may need additional polish.
  • Provide feedback to improve the tools and outsourcing pipelines and efficiencies. 
  • Follow schedules and help meet external deadlines with vendors.
  • Understand mesh topology and edge loops as it translates to efficient modeling practices for in-game characters, and has previous experienced building detailed characters.
  • Understanding of 3d scan as a foundation for organic or hard surface model workflows.
  • Good understanding of UV coordinate space, texturing, and memory budgets.  Able to help maintain standards and practices set by the team. 
  • Thorough working knowledge of Maya, Zbrush, and Substance Painter.
  • Understands the principles and practices of physically based workflows and texturing and helps maintain these standards through external vendors.

Player Profile:
  • 4-6+ Years of directly related experience in gaming.
  • Performed similar role on at least 1 published game title.
  • Experienced in brief creation and outsourcing feedback. 
  • Properly estimate time to complete work and co-ordinate with external vendors, manages competing priorities and builds in buffers as needed to hit deadlines. 
  • Verify art asset performance and appearance in the game engine.
  • High level of proficiency using Maya to create detailed characters to scale and accuracy.
  • Proven ability to create detailed Zbrush.
  • Candidate must have experience using Substance Painter, and Photoshop to create hyper realistic textures for next gen materials.
  • Experience is working from Scan data as a foundation.
  • Candidate must be proactive and work well in a larger team environment and have excellent communication skills.  Able to work independently a plus.
  • Candidate must have experience creating efficient and clean models with proper UV layout inside Autodesk Maya
  • Radiant experience a plus.
